Is marijuana legal in Minnesota?
Medical marijuana is legal in Minnesota for qualifying conditions when prescribed by a doctor.
In Minnesota, medical marijuana was legalized in 2014 and began being distributed in summer 2015. Medical marijuana can only be prescribed for qualifying conditions, the list of which has been expanded several times since 2014.
Advocates and lawmakers continue to push for recreational marijuana in Minnesota. Laws are currently being considered for 2020.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) is an advocate for recreational marijuana. Minnesota State House Majority Leader Ryan Winkler (DFL) plans to introduce recreational marijuana legislation this session, but Senate Republicans have said they plan to block any legislation.
